Meaning of nonmelanoma carcinoma in situ: Abnormal cells are found in the lower part of the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin).

Abnormal cells are found in the lower part of the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin). These abnormal cells may become cancer and spread into nearby normal tissue. Also called stage 0 nonmelanoma skin carcinoma in situ.
